I remember when Linux used to boot in 4MB of RAM, Ubuntu now panics if you try that (as I found out when &lt;a href=&quot;http://www.csamuel.org/2008/04/23/hardy-broke-my-server&quot; rel=&quot;nofollow&quot;&gt;recent kernels only recognised 4MB&lt;/a&gt; of 256MB on my quad processor PentiumPro 200MHz box).. :-(
